Obituary of Robert P. German

Toulon- Robert P. German, 89, of Toulon, formerly of the Wyoming/Castleton area, died at 2:07 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010, at Kewanee Hospital.

He was born May 28, 1921 in Wethersfield, the son of Sumner and Mabel Hopkirk German. He married Maxine Harmon on August 12, 1946 in Galva. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

He was a WWII U.S Army veteran having served in the European Theatre where he was awarded a Purple Heart for his involvement in the Battle of the Bulge. Robert worked at Schupbach-Streitmatter Gas Company as a truck driver and also farmed near Castleton most of his life. Robert served as the Penn Twp. Road Commissioner for many years. He was a 30 year member of Flying Farmers of America, and a member of both the American Legion and VFW Posts in Toulon. Robert also was a member of the Wyoming Horseshoe Pitching Club.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 2010 at DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home, Toulon. Rev. Paul Wier will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in rural Wyoming.

Memorials may be to the Charity of the Donor’s choice.
